Grants Director (Long-Term Contract)

Location: New York, NY (Hybrid – 3 days onsite for training; remote flexibility available for the right candidate)
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM–4:30 PM (35-hour work week)
Duration: Long-term contract with potential opportunity to convert to permanent
Pay Rate: $65–$75/hr

About the Opportunity

A leading nonprofit healthcare organization is seeking an experienced Grants Director to support federal grant accounting, financial reporting, and month-end close activities. This is a hands-on role for an accounting professional who can work independently, take ownership, and provide immediate support during a busy audit period.

The ideal candidate will have strong grant accounting experience, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to operate effectively with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Support month-end close activities, including journal entries, reconciliations, and GL analysis.
  • Manage federal grant accounting activities, including Uniform Guidance compliance and SEFA reporting.
  • Review and analyze GL details within accounting systems.
  • Process invoices and budget modifications.
  • Analyze payer-based accounting and AR activity.
  • Support audit requests and federal grant reporting requirements.
  • Identify issues, research discrepancies, and provide solutions.
  • Work collaboratively with accounting leadership and team members while managing responsibilities independently.

Qualifications

  • Strong experience with month-end close, journal entries, and general ledger accounting.
  • Federal grant accounting experience required, including Uniform Guidance and SEFA reporting.
  • Experience within nonprofit healthcare or similar grant-funded organizations preferred.
  • Workday experience strongly preferred; candidates with other ERP experience will be considered.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize workload, and meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Top Requirements

  • Hands-on federal grant accounting experience.
  • Strong GL, journal entry, and month-end close background.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal direction.
