Accounting Specialist

Long Island City, NY (On-Site)

Salary: $65,000 - $70,000 annually

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM (100% On-Site)

Our client, a well-established global engineering and infrastructure company, is seeking an Accounting Specialist to join its growing finance team. This is an excellent opportunity for an accounting professional looking to gain broad exposure in a collaborative, fast-paced environment supporting both domestic and international operations.

Responsibilities

  • Support day-to-day accounting operations across a global organization
  • Process accounts payable, including invoice matching, coding, approvals, and payment processing
  • Assist with accounts receivable functions, including invoicing, cash application, and collections
  • Enter and maintain accurate financial records and accounting transactions
  • Maintain vendor, supplier, and customer master files
  • Perform weekly bank and credit card reconciliations
  • Monitor AP and AR balances and follow up on outstanding items
  • Assist with month-end and year-end close activities
  • Support financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls, audit requirements, and tax regulations
  • Maintain accounting documentation and support audit requests
  • Monitor shared accounting inboxes and distribute requests appropriately
  • Identify process improvements to enhance accounting efficiency

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • Foreign currency accounting experience is required
  • 3–5 years of accounting experience
  • Experience in logistics, engineering, construction, infrastructure, or project-based accounting preferred
  • Experience with construction/project accounting and WIP schedules is a plus
  • Strong understanding of accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general accounting
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills required
  • QuickBooks Desktop experience preferred
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills
  • High attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
