Director of Supply Chain

Location: Jacksonville, FL
Work Arrangement: 100% on-site
Employment Type: Full-time, salaried, exempt
Compensation: $120,000 to $135,000 base salary
Travel: Less than 10%, including occasional supplier visits or audits
Reports to: Vice President of Operations

Position Summary:

A growing industrial manufacturer is seeking a hands-on Director of Supply Chain to lead its purchasing, procurement, material-planning, and supplier-management functions.

This position will oversee an existing team while developing sourcing strategies and supplier partnerships that support production, new product development, and long-term business growth. The Director will be responsible for improving supplier performance, maintaining material availability, optimizing inventory and working capital, reducing supply-chain risk, and strengthening procurement processes.

The ideal candidate combines strategic supply-chain leadership with the willingness to remain involved in supplier negotiations, material shortages, sourcing decisions, operational priorities, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the purchasing and procurement function, including the development and performance of an existing supply-chain team.
• Develop and execute sourcing strategies that improve cost, quality, delivery performance, supplier capability, and continuity of supply.
• Lead supplier selection, contract negotiations, commercial agreements, and long-term supplier relationship management.
• Manage material-planning activities and align procurement decisions with production requirements and forecasted demand.
• Monitor inventory levels, lead times, reorder points, and material availability while supporting working-capital objectives.
• Partner with Engineering on new product development, prototypes, engineering changes, component alternatives, manufacturability, and supplier readiness.
• Identify single-source vulnerabilities, supplier-capacity concerns, commodity risks, and other potential supply disruptions.
• Develop alternate suppliers and business-continuity strategies that reduce operational risk.
• Establish supplier performance metrics and lead supplier-development initiatives focused on quality, delivery, responsiveness, and continuous improvement.
• Conduct or support supplier audits, qualification activities, onboarding, certification tracking, and contract-compliance processes.
• Manage critical purchase-order activity, supplier escalations, shortages, and delivery expediting when necessary.
• Analyze procurement spend, cost variances, supplier performance, and market conditions to identify savings and improvement opportunities.
• Improve procurement policies, procedures, controls, reporting, and systems to support scalable growth.
• Partner with Finance on budgeting, forecasting, cost management, inventory investment, and working-capital initiatives.
• Provide executive leadership with clear reporting and strategic guidance regarding sourcing initiatives, supplier risks, market conditions, and supply-chain performance.

Qualifications:

• Eight or more years of progressive experience in procurement, purchasing, sourcing, materials, or supply-chain management.
• Experience within manufacturing, industrial products, heavy equipment, engineered components, machinery, or a comparable physical-product environment.
• Demonstrated success developing sourcing strategies and negotiating supplier agreements.
• Strong experience managing supplier relationships, performance, costs, capacity, and continuity of supply.
• Practical understanding of material planning, inventory optimization, lead-time management, reorder points, and production support.
• Experience partnering with Engineering on new product development, prototypes, engineering changes, BOM changes, or component sourcing.
• Experience assessing supplier risk, developing alternate sources, and addressing single-source vulnerabilities.
• Strong financial and business acumen, including exposure to budgeting, forecasting, cost analysis, inventory investment, and working capital.
• Proficiency with manufacturing ERP or MRP systems and Microsoft Excel.
• Strong analytical, communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and remain effective in a fast-paced, hands-on environment.
• High attention to detail, sound ethical judgment, and a commitment to quality and compliance.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Previous leadership of procurement, purchasing, planning, materials, or supply-chain personnel.
• Experience in a growing, smaller, or operationally evolving manufacturing organization.
• Experience building or improving procurement processes, supplier programs, reporting, controls, or team practices.
• Background supporting engineered products, industrial equipment, OEM supply chains, or custom components.
• Experience with supplier audits, qualifications, corrective actions, certifications, or quality-management processes.
• Familiarity with business-intelligence or data-analysis tools.
• Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, or a related field. Equivalent professional experience will also be considered.
