Job Description

The Unit Test Software/Firmware Engineer is a self-motivated engineer who designs, develops, and verifies software solutions that reside on embedded processors. This includes defining software design principles, writing code in the supported language, and understanding the firmware functionality of 8, 16, 32-bit microprocessors and microcontrollers.

The engineer is expected to build high-quality, innovative, and fully functional software which includes requirements, architecture, detailed design unit and integration test. The work environment can be either independent or within a team and the engineer understands and uses software design processes during their daily tasks.

  • Medical Device Design processes
  • Work with manager and/or PM to provide information that will aid in the initial estimation process (RFI/RFQ)
  • Write clear and concise documentation related to the work performed.
  • Develop and run effective software verification tests to ensure product stability and performance.
  • Identify, document, prioritize, and resolve software issues on a software unit level.
  • Provide input to identify and mitigate technical project risks.
  • Perform tasks and work items at a sub-project level with limited support from team lead or PM.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to ensure project success.
  • Follow department processes and procedures.
  • Comply with company security and safety policies.

Required Skills:

  • Strong in C, C++
  • Automated Unit and integration testing with one or more frameworks
    • Vectorcast, google test or Cppunit
  • White box Software requirements testing
  • Electromechanical design troubleshooting
  • Scripting for test Python (or other)
  • Understanding of Design and Design testing principles
  • Git and use of Application Life cycle tools like Azure Devops or JIRA

Nice to Have:

  • Software Planning, Requirements, Architecture, Design, Implementation, and Integration
  • Medical Device Design Experience with FDA and IEC62304 processes
  • Agile Methodology

  • Can you describe your hands-on embedded firmware development experience using microcontrollers? Which microcontrollers/processors have you worked with, and how extensively have you programmed them in C or C++? Please be detailed.
  • What experience do you have with automated unit and integration testing for embedded C/C++ software? Which testing frameworks have you used, such as VectorCAST, Google Test, CppUnit, or similar tools? Please be detailed.
  • Can you describe your experience with white-box software testing and requirements-based verification, including developing test cases, debugging failures, and performing code/structural coverage? Please be detailed.
