Position Overview
We are seeking a highly organized and experienced Section 8 Subsidy Specialist to manage all NYCHA-related functions and ensure uninterrupted subsidy payments. This position plays a vital role in maintaining housing stability for our residents and ensuring compliance with all Section 8 regulations.
Key Responsibilities

Manage NYCHA and Section 8 subsidy processing and documentation

Prevent lapses in subsidy payments; ensure accounts remain active

Oversee annual and interim certifications/recertifications

Collect and verify tenant documentation

Coordinate HQS inspections; ensure all units pass inspection

Communicate with tenants regarding rent, recertifications, and repair-related concerns

Collaborate with leasing and legal teams to ensure correct subsidy application
-
Generate subsidy reports; analyze data across multiple ledgers

Submit third-party verification forms as needed

Maintain accurate tenant files and purge outdated records

Notify internal teams (e.g., legal) when subsidies are received

Maintain communication with HUD, NYCHA, HPD, HCR, and other agencies

Manage internal/external waitlists and prepare compliance notices
Ideal Candidate Profile
-
Minimum 2+ years of experience working with NYCHA (New York City Housing Authority)

Prior hands-on experience with HQS inspections, tenant recertifications, and landlord collaboration

Strong communication and interpersonal skills; able to work with diverse populations

Highly organized and detail-oriented; capable of tracking processes from start to finish

Bilingual in Spanish strongly preferred

Comfortable managing sensitive information and resolving tenant issues professionally

Strong Microsoft Excel skills; familiarity with property management systems is a plus

Ability to work independently while coordinating with multiple internal departments
Qualifications
Required:

At least 1 year of experience in property management or housing subsidy programs

High proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel)

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Proven ability to handle multiple competing deadlines
