Our esteemed client in Middlesex County, New Jersey is seeking a detail-oriented and organized Accounting Clerk with basic accounting knowledge to support their growing team. The ideal candidate will assist with day-to-day office operations and provide essential support for both accounts receivable (AR) and accounts payable (AP) functions. This role is ideal for someone who is proactive, reliable, and capable of managing multiple tasks in a dynamic environment.

Key Responsibilities

Administrative Support

  • Perform general office duties, including data entry, filing, photocopying, and scanning
  • Handle incoming and outgoing correspondence such as emails, mail, and phone calls
  • Assist with customer and vendor inquiries and direct communication as needed
  • Maintain office organization, supplies, and documentation systems.

Accounts Receivable (AR)

  • Process and post customer invoices and incoming payments
  • Maintain accurate AR records and documentation.
  • Assist with preparation of AR reports and account reconciliations
  • Follow up with customers on outstanding balances and coordinate payment arrangements.

Accounts Payable (AP)

  • Review and process vendor invoices for accuracy and required approvals
  • Enter AP data into accounting systems and maintain transaction records.
  • Reconcile vendor statements and resolve any discrepancies in a timely manner.
  • Support preparation of vendor payments and maintain up-to-date vendor files.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; coursework in accounting or business administration is a plus
  • Basic understanding of accounts receivable and accounts payable processes
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to multitask effectively
  • High attention to detail and accuracy in data handling
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with accounting software or ERP systems (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, NetSuite).
  • Previous experience in the food distribution industry or a similar business environment.
