Ascendo Resources is currently seeking an Archivist for a full-time, on-site role located in Brooklyn, NY!

 

Our client is a faith-based nonprofit serving communities across Brooklyn & Queens. As an Archivist, you’ll lead preservation and access for historical records—both physical and born-digital—supporting research, genealogy, and institutional history while partnering with internal offices, parishes/schools, and the public.

 

What You’ll Do

  • Appraise, preserve, arrange, and describe physical & born-digital collections; create professional finding aids (EAD/DACS) and database records.
  • Implement policies, procedures, and forms for professional archival operations; manage accessioning and transfers of records of permanent value.
  • Rehouse materials; apply basic preservation measures; optimize storage and retrieval for print, photographic, and media holdings.
  • Provide reference services; conduct/support research and genealogy requests; serve as a resource to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Train and supervise staff, interns, and volunteers; collaborate with departments and external organizations.
  • Oversee the archive budget and maximize use of archival space.
  • Stay current on archival standards, digital preservation trends, and technologies.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

  • Master’s in Archival Studies, History, Library/Information Science, or related field.
  • 3+ years archival management experience.
  • Certified Archivist or SAA A&D/DAS certificate preferred.
  • Proficiency with digital preservation/records management practices and retention guidelines.
  • Experience with EAD, DACS, and tools like ArchivesSpace, Archivists’ Toolkit, Preservica; comfortable with Microsoft 365 and database management.
  • Excellent research, writing, and communication skills; strong organization/time-management.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs and use stools/ladders as needed; local travel within Brooklyn/Queens (public transit or car).
  • Knowledge of privacy/confidentiality laws and best practices; discretion with sensitive information.
