Refrigeration Manager

Location: Hastings, Nebraska 
Employment Type: Full-Time

Position Summary:
Under the general supervision of the Maintenance Manager, the Refrigeration Manager performs a variety of complex technical and routine duties related to the maintenance, repair, and installation of refrigeration systems. This position is responsible for diagnosing and resolving refrigeration and boiler system issues while maintaining a strong focus on Safety, Quality, Service, and Productivity.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Diagnose and troubleshoot complex issues in refrigeration systems and related equipment.

  • Install new refrigeration systems and integrate them into existing infrastructure following safety and sanitation protocols.

  • Perform daily inspections and maintenance of high- and low-pressure boilers.

  • Diagnose and repair boiler and refrigeration systems using schematic diagrams and visual observations.

  • Conduct routine visual inspections of engine room equipment to ensure operation within specified ranges.

  • Use temperature probes to verify system readings and manually record inspection data.

  • Assist with Process Safety Management (PSM) procedures and audits for boilers and refrigeration systems, ensuring compliance and corrective action follow-up.

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date digital/electronic refrigeration maintenance records.

  • Support contractor safety compliance programs and the Risk Management Process (RMP).

  • Participate in corporate and external agency audits.

  • Provide training documentation and ensure proper recordkeeping.

  • Communicate effectively with the Maintenance Manager regarding equipment status, issues, and performance.

  • Supervise one Refrigeration Technician.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment with ammonia refrigeration systems.

  • Knowledge of electricity, hydraulics, pneumatics, and general plant maintenance systems.

  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair complex refrigeration and electrical systems.

  • Strong communication skills—both written and verbal.

  • Ability to coordinate with others, manage tasks independently, and maintain attention to detail.

  • Basic computer proficiency and familiarity with Windows-based programs.


Education & Certifications:

  • RETA Level 1, 2, and 3 certifications or equivalent training.

  • Boiler and PSM certifications required.

  • HazMat and Confined Space training certifications preferred.


Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift 50–70 lbs. unassisted.

  • Must be able to work in refrigerated environments and confined spaces.

  • Must be able to climb stairs, kneel, crawl, bend, and perform hands-on repair work.

  • Ability to distinguish colors for electrical wiring identification.

  • Exposure to high-pitched electrical noise and temperatures exceeding 100°F possible.

  • Must be available for overtime, 24/7 emergencies, and occasional travel as required.
