New York, NY (Hybrid) Salary: $65,000–$75,000 Industry: Nonprofit Organization Size: ~$40M annual revenue Accounting Team: 12 employees Schedule: Monday–Friday, 35 hours/week (9:00 AM–5:00 PM) First two weeks onsite for training, then hybrid (2 days onsite / 3 days remote)
About the Role
A well-established nonprofit organization is seeking a Payroll Accountant with Paylocity experience to support continued growth. This is a hands-on role combining payroll processing and core accounting responsibilities, ideal for someone who enjoys owning the payroll function while staying connected to general accounting operations.
Key Responsibilities

Process biweekly payroll for 170+ exempt and non-exempt employees across 7 states (FL, NC, MI, CA, NJ, CT, NY)

Review and approve payroll in Paylocity, ensuring accuracy of wages, deductions, and taxes

Ensure full payroll tax compliance, including state registrations, withholdings, and timely remittances

Research and resolve payroll discrepancies (overpayments, underpayments, skipped payrolls) and communicate clearly with employees

Prepare payroll-related journal entries, imports into ERP, coding, allocations, and light bank reconciliations (10–15 transactions)

Support general accounting and bookkeeping tasks during non-payroll cycles (approx. 60% payroll / 40% accounting)
Top Qualifications

Hands-on multi-state, biweekly payroll experience

Paylocity experience strongly preferred

Solid understanding of accounting fundamentals (debits/credits, journal entries, coding)

Strong Excel skills, including PivotTables and VLOOKUP

Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a team
