About the Opportunity

Our client is a highly respected law firm focused exclusively on first-party property homeowners insurance litigation. Due to continued growth, the firm is seeking a talented Insurance Defense Attorney with 5+ years of litigation experience to join its Houston-area team.

While direct experience handling first-party property claims is highly preferred, the firm is open to attorneys with backgrounds in other areas of insurance defense who are interested in transitioning into this specialized practice.

Position Summary

The attorney will manage a litigation caseload from inception through resolution, representing insurance carriers in first-party homeowners property disputes. The ideal candidate is a strong litigator who can independently handle files, develop case strategy, and build lasting relationships with clients and referral sources.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a caseload of insurance defense matters through all phases of litigation.
  • Conduct legal research, draft pleadings, motions, and other litigation documents.
  • Take and defend depositions.
  • Handle hearings, mediations, and settlement negotiations.
  • Develop litigation strategy and provide case evaluations.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, opposing counsel, experts, and witnesses.
  • Participate in business development initiatives and strengthen client relationships.

Qualifications

  • J.D. from an accredited law school.
  • Licensed and in good standing with the Texas Bar.
  • 5+ years of insurance defense litigation experience.
  • First-party property/homeowners insurance experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience handling other insurance defense matters will also be considered.
  • Strong writing, advocacy, and case management skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating with a highly experienced team.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base salary ranging from $140,000 to $170,000, commensurate with experience.
  • Annual billable expectation of 1,880 hours.
  • Unique compensation structure that rewards business development rather than billable production.
  • Attorneys receive 15% of collected revenue generated from new clients they originate, paid monthly on the second paycheck of each month.
  • Competitive benefits package.
  • Professional growth opportunities within a growing and specialized practice.

Work Arrangement

The firm offers workplace flexibility for experienced attorneys. Candidates with established first-party property insurance litigation experience may be eligible for a more flexible or remote work arrangement.

Why Join This Firm?

  • Exclusive focus on first-party homeowners insurance litigation.
  • Entrepreneurial environment that rewards client development.
  • Competitive compensation with significant earning potential beyond base salary.
  • Flexible work options for experienced practitioners.
  • Opportunity to join a growing practice with a strong reputation in the insurance defense market.
