Project Accountant – Construction

We are seeking an experienced Project Accountant to support the financial management of multiple construction projects. This role will work closely with Project Managers and the accounting team to ensure accurate project billing, cost tracking, reporting, and overall financial performance.

Responsibilities

• Manage project accounting from project setup through closeout

• Prepare and process AIA billings, progress billings, and invoices

• Track project costs, budgets, commitments, and change orders

• Review subcontractor invoices and payment applications

• Monitor job cost reports and identify budget or cost discrepancies

• Maintain accurate project financial records and supporting documentation

• Assist with accounts payable and accounts receivable related to assigned projects

• Prepare project financial reports, reconciliations, and monthly reporting

• Work closely with Project Managers to review project financial performance

• Track retainage, lien releases, and subcontractor documentation

• Assist with month-end close and general accounting functions as needed

Qualifications

• 3+ years of project accounting experience within construction

• Strong knowledge of job costing and construction billing

• Experience with AIA billing, retainage, change orders, and subcontractor payments

• Strong Excel skills and experience working with accounting or construction management software

• Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously

• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills

• Excellent communication skills with the ability to work closely with project management and accounting teams

Preferred

• Experience with a general contractor or commercial construction company

• Experience with construction ERP/accounting systems

• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field
