Company Overview
Our client, a leading construction company (residential and commercial) based in South Florida is looking to hire a Staff Accountant to join its Midtown Miami office as soon as possible. Previous experience within consutruction/project accounting is a must.
Job Summary
The Staff Accountant will play a critical role in managing the financial operations of our construction projects, including job costing, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and financial reporting. This on-site position in Midtown Miami requires proficiency in Procore for project management integration and Sage for accounting processes, ensuring compliance with industry standards and supporting our project-driven operations.
Key Responsibilities

General Accounting: Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, ensuring accurate recording of construction-related transactions (e.g., job costs, subcontractor payments).

Job Costing: Track and allocate project costs using Procore and Sage, including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor expenses, to ensure accurate project profitability analysis.

Accounts Payable: Process invoices, subcontractor payments, and vendor bills in Sage, verifying accuracy and ensuring timely payments in alignment with project budgets.

Accounts Receivable: Manage client billings, progress payments, and retainage, ensuring timely collections and accurate recording in Sage.

Financial Reporting: Prepare financial statements, job cost reports, and budget variance analyses, complying with GAAP and supporting IFRS where applicable, using Sage and Microsoft Excel.

Payroll Support: Assist with payroll processing for construction staff, ensuring compliance with prevailing wage requirements and union regulations, if applicable.

Reconciliation: Perform bank reconciliations, job cost reconciliations, and intercompany account reconciliations, integrating data from Procore and Sage.

Compliance: Ensure adherence to construction-specific regulations, such as lien waivers, insurance certificates, and Florida construction laws (e.g., Florida Statutes Chapter 713).

Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes, leveraging Procore’s financial tools and Sage’s automation features to enhance efficiency.

Collaboration: Work closely with project managers, accounts payable coordinators, and external auditors to support project financials and audits.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

3–5 years of accounting experience, with at least 2 years in the construction industry.

Proficiency in Procore for job costing and project financial management.

Proficiency in Sage (e.g., Sage 300 Construction and Real Estate or Sage Intacct) for accounting tasks.

Strong knowledge of construction accounting principles, including job costing, progress billing, and retainage.

Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (e.g., pivot tables, VLOOKUP, SUMIFS) for financial analysis and reporting.

Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills to manage high-volume transactions.

Strong communication skills for collaborating with project managers, vendors, and subcontractors.

Ability to work on-site full-time at our Midtown Miami office.
Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with construction-specific regulations, such as AIA billing or lien management.

Familiarity with IFRS standards (e.g., IFRS 15 for revenue recognition in construction contracts).

Knowledge of additional construction or accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite).

CPA, CMA, or other relevant certification is a plus.
