Port Engineer (Bilingual – English / Spanish)

A growing maritime transportation company is seeking an experienced Port Engineer to oversee the technical management, maintenance planning, and repair execution of company vessels. This role works closely with vessel leadership and shore-based teams to ensure vessels operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with regulatory standards. The Port Engineer will serve as the primary technical liaison between vessel crews, shipyards, vendors, and regulatory bodies.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Oversight & Maintenance

  • Plan and manage preventive and corrective maintenance programs for assigned vessels
  • Conduct vessel inspections to evaluate condition, safety, and compliance standards
  • Coordinate drydockings, regulatory surveys, and major repair projects
  • Develop technical specifications and review vendor or shipyard proposals
  • Maintain accurate machinery, maintenance, and technical records

Compliance & Safety

  • Ensure vessels meet regulatory requirements and international maritime standards
  • Support safety management and environmental compliance initiatives
  • Coordinate with classification societies and regulatory agencies for inspections and certifications

Project & Vendor Management

  • Manage relationships with shipyards, service providers, and equipment vendors
  • Oversee contracted work to ensure timelines, quality, and budgets are met
  • Coordinate spare parts, equipment procurement, and service scheduling

Operational Support

  • Provide technical guidance to vessel Masters and Chief Engineers
  • Assist with troubleshooting, incident investigations, and root cause analysis
  • Support operational readiness and reliability across the fleet

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, or related discipline
  • 5+ years of marine engineering experience, including shore-side or vessel engineering leadership
  • Experience with drydockings, vessel repairs, and maintenance planning
  • Strong knowledge of diesel propulsion systems, auxiliary machinery, electrical systems, and hull maintenance
  • Familiarity with maritime regulations and classification standards
  • Experience with maintenance management systems (AMOS, NS5, ShipManager or similar) preferred
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish required
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally as needed

Additional Requirements

  • Valid passport and ability to access vessels and shipyard environments
  • Strong project management, budgeting, and communication skills
  • Comfortable working in shipyard and industrial environments when required

Compensation

  • Base salary: $90,000 – $110,000, depending on experience
