This role supports individuals and families in accessing Medicaid and other public assistance programs by providing eligibility guidance, application support, and case coordination. The specialist serves as a key community resource for navigating Florida’s public benefits system, ensuring applications are processed accurately and clients receive the services they qualify for.
Key Responsibilities

Screen individuals and families for eligibility for programs including Medicaid, Medicaid Managed Care, Long-Term Care/Medicaid Waivers, SNAP, TANF, and other public benefits; identify complex cases and provide appropriate referrals.

Assist clients with online benefit applications, document submissions, renewals, and eligibility re-determinations using Florida’s benefits portal.

Guide applicants through the application process via in-person, phone, or virtual support.

Prepare, review, and submit eligibility documentation, including verification of identity, income, residency, assets, and medical needs in accordance with state guidelines.

Maintain accurate case records in state benefits and case management systems while ensuring confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA and related regulations.

Educate clients and families about program rules, benefit options, enrollment processes, rights, and appeals procedures.

Conduct community outreach activities such as workshops, informational sessions, and community events to increase awareness of available benefits and services.

Track caseload activity and performance metrics including processing timelines, approvals, denials, and appeals; assist with routine reporting.

Stay informed on updates to Florida Medicaid policies, public benefits procedures, and federal regulatory changes.

Provide culturally responsive services and assist individuals with language or accessibility needs; Spanish fluency is a plus.
Minimum Qualifications

2+ years of experience in public benefits eligibility, case management, social services, healthcare coordination, or a related field; Medicaid experience strongly preferred.

Familiarity with Florida public benefits systems and online application portals used for eligibility and case management.

Knowledge of community resources, long-term care services, and referral networks within Miami-Dade County.

Proficiency using case management software, Microsoft Office, and electronic document systems.

Strong communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.

Valid Florida driver’s license and ability to travel locally as needed.
Preferred Qualifications

Eligibility Specialist certification or related state certification.

Bilingual fluency in Spanish and English.

Experience supporting older adults, individuals with disabilities, or behavioral health populations.

Understanding of HIPAA and best practices related to client confidentiality.
