Staff Accountant – Job Description

Summary:
The Staff Accountant supports daily accounting operations, financial reporting, and compliance with established standards. This role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and experience in grant accounting and higher education environments.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist with general ledger activities, including account and bank reconciliations

• Support preparation of financial reports and ensure accuracy of financial data

• Process accounts payable, accounts receivable, and purchase card transactions

• Maintain compliance with GAAP and internal accounting procedures

• Utilize accounting systems and Microsoft Excel for tracking and reporting

• Perform additional accounting and administrative tasks as assigned

Qualifications:

• Strong knowledge of GAAP and general accounting principles

• Experience with grant accounting and higher education environments preferred

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel

• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills

• Excellent attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines

• Effective communication and interpersonal skills

• Ability to handle confidential information with discretion

Education & Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required

• Minimum of 2 years of accounting or finance experience required
