Ascendo Resources is currently seeking a full-time Payroll Specialist for an on-site role located in Manhattan. Salary range is up to $75,000 a year with excellent benefits.
Our client is a well-established construction company in New York City.
This is a strong opportunity for someone with hands-on construction payroll experience who understands the complexities of union payroll, certified payroll, job costing, and compliance reporting.
This role is best suited for a detail-oriented payroll professional who can work independently, manage a broad scope of payroll responsibilities, and ensure accuracy across multiple entities and reporting requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Administer full-cycle union payroll for approximately 60–150 employees across multiple EINs
- Process and reconcile union remittances, certified payroll, and prevailing wage reporting
- Manage workers’ compensation claims, insurance payroll audits, and compliance reporting including OSHA, EEOC, and OCIP/CCIP
- Ensure compliance with NYS unemployment and payroll tax regulations
- Handle job costing, payroll reconciliations, and discrepancy resolution within Sage 300
- Generate and format payroll-related reports in Excel, including tables, data derivations, and payroll packages
- Assist with payroll audits, garnishments, and benefit remittances
- Support planning around a potential payroll system transition to ADP Workforce Now
- Partner with leadership to ensure payroll is processed accurately, timely, and in compliance with all requirements
Qualifications:
- 3+ years of experience with Sage 300 (Construction) in both payroll and job cost
- Strong understanding of union payroll, certified payroll, and construction payroll requirements
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, along with Word and Outlook
- Experience with ADP Workforce Now strongly preferred
- Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently

- Experience utilizing payroll/timekeeping workflows in a construction environment
- Ability to oversee the full scope of payroll operations with accuracy and compliance
- Knowledge of payroll taxes, reporting requirements, and audit support
- Strong grasp of job cost accounting and ability to identify and resolve discrepancies
Additional Information:
- Current payroll is processed in Sage 300, with possible future migration to ADP Workforce Now
- This person must be ready to take ownership of payroll operations immediately
- This is a stable individual contributor role with no room for growth
