Staff Accountant (Nonprofit) – Full-Time
Location: New York, NY (100% onsite)
Schedule: Monday–Friday, onsite
Salary: Up to $80,000

A mission-driven, chef-led nonprofit organization is seeking a Staff Accountant to join its growing Finance team. This organization partners with local businesses and community groups to provide nutritious meals and support underserved communities, while reinvesting in local economies.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone early in their accounting career who is passionate about nonprofit work and wants to be part of an impactful, collaborative environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage full-cycle Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable, including invoicing, collections, and vendor payments
  • Record and maintain accurate financial data in the general ledger (journal entries, reconciliations, expense coding)
  • Assist with month-end close, including bank reconciliations and variance analysis
  • Support budget vs. actual reporting and provide insights to leadership
  • Track and manage grants, restricted funds, and in-kind donations
  • Prepare documentation and act as liaison during the annual audit
  • Ensure compliance with financial regulations and internal controls
  • Maintain and improve accounting processes and documentation (SOPs)

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 2–4 years of accounting experience (AP, AR, bookkeeping required)
  • Strong understanding of basic accounting principles and financial reporting
  • Experience with QuickBooks, Excel, and Google Suite
  • Strong communication skills and willingness to assist with AR/collections
  • Must have a genuine interest in nonprofit, mission-driven work

Preferred:

  • Prior nonprofit or grant accounting experience
