Property Accountant (Low-Income Housing Experience)

Location: New York, NY (Hybrid/Onsite)
Compensation: $90,000 - $94,700 + Full Benefits

A well-established, mission-driven real estate organization is seeking a Real Estate Finance Supervisor to join its growing finance team. This individual will play a key leadership role overseeing general ledger accounting, financial reporting, and team management within a complex real estate portfolio.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with low-income housing / LIHTC experience who enjoys working in a collaborative, impact-driven environment while managing and developing staff.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee general ledger accounting and ensure timely, accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting
  • Manage and mentor a team of accounting professionals (including senior staff)
  • Prepare and review financial statements, variance analyses, and reporting packages for internal stakeholders
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and property performance analysis in partnership with Asset Management
  • Lead annual audits, funder reporting, and compliance processes
  • Review month-end close packages, including bank reconciliations, accruals, fixed assets, and GAAP adjustments
  • Monitor cash activity, escrow/reimbursement submissions, and funding draws
  • Review leases, maintain lease schedules, and support year-end obligations
  • Ensure compliance with partnership agreements, loan covenants, and LIHTC regulations
  • Assist in preparing GAAP financial statements and footnote disclosures

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (required)
  • 5+ years of real estate accounting experience, with a focus on affordable housing / LIHTC
  • 3+ years of supervisory or team leadership experience
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP
  • Experience with Yardi required
  • Advanced Excel skills; proficiency in Word and PowerPoint
  • Experience with construction/development accounting is a plus
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate cross-functionally
  • Experience developing or improving accounting policies and procedures
