Grants Accountant (Temp-to-Perm)
Location: Mostly Remote (6 onsite days/month near Penn Station, NYC)
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM (35 hours/week)
Pay Rate: $40/hour (Temp-to-Perm)
Conversion Salary: Up to $78,000 annually
Start: After background check + onboarding period
Interview Process: 1 video interview + Excel assessment


Overview

A mission-driven nonprofit organization is seeking a Grants Accountant to support a portfolio of city- and state-funded programs. This role will partner closely with finance, budget, and program teams to manage the full grant lifecycle, ensure compliance, and support reporting and audits. Ideal for someone with strong NYC/NYS grants experience looking for a stable, impact-driven environment.


Key Responsibilities

  • Manage NYC/NYS grant portfolios, including budgeting, claims, renewals, and reporting
  • Prepare and submit monthly, quarterly, and annual reports through funder portals (e.g., HHS Accelerator, Grants Gateway)
  • Monitor contract budgets, AR, and cash flow; analyze financial performance and variances
  • Maintain grant-related P&L and balance sheet accounts
  • Ensure compliance with funder requirements and support audit processes
  • Maintain accurate grant records and oversee funding databases
  • Assist with ERP implementations, upgrades, and system testing

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 2+ years of grants management experience (NYC/NYS or federal funding required)
  • Strong audit exposure and understanding of grant compliance/reporting
  • Advanced Excel skills (formulas, analysis, modeling)
  • Experience with ERP/accounting systems
  • Strong communication skills and attention to detail

Preferred

  • 3+ years in nonprofit or social services environment
  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics or similar ERP systems
  • Background in budgeting and financial planning tools
