About the Opportunity

A well-established international financial institution is seeking a Residential Mortgage Underwriter to join its growing lending team in Miami. This role is responsible for evaluating residential mortgage loan applications, analyzing borrower financials, assessing risk, and issuing sound underwriting recommendations in accordance with internal credit policies and regulatory requirements.

The ideal candidate has strong analytical skills, experience underwriting residential mortgage loans, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced banking environment.

Responsibilities

  • Review residential mortgage loan applications and supporting documentation
  • Analyze tax returns, income documentation, financial statements, and credit reports
  • Evaluate borrower capacity, collateral, and overall credit risk
  • Identify risk factors and recommend appropriate mitigants
  • Prepare detailed underwriting analyses and credit recommendations
  • Ensure loans comply with internal credit guidelines and regulatory standards
  • Communicate with operations and lending teams to resolve documentation or application issues
  • Conduct OFAC, background, and credit checks as needed
  • Assist with portfolio-related projects and process improvements
  • Maintain strong attention to detail while managing multiple files simultaneously

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent relevant experience
  • 3+ years of residential mortgage underwriting experience preferred
  • Strong knowledge of residential lending guidelines and credit analysis
  • Experience reviewing tax returns and complex borrower income structures
  • Familiarity with banking compliance and regulatory requirements
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work efficiently in a deadline-driven environment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and lending systems
  • Spanish and/or Portuguese language skills are a plus, but not required
