Tax Accountant

About the Opportunity:

A Jacksonville-based accounting firm is hiring a Tax Accountant to support business tax preparation and client-facing tax work. This role is best suited for someone who has prepared business returns directly and is comfortable working with small-business clients, gathering information, reviewing financial details, and explaining tax-related questions in a professional setting.

This is not a high-volume individual tax-only role. The firm needs someone with practical business tax experience who can contribute in a hands-on capacity and interact with clients through both virtual and in-person meetings.

What You Will Do:

  • Prepare business tax returns for small-business clients.
  • Support tax preparation for entity-based clients, which may include partnerships, corporations, S-corps, trusts, estates, or related filings depending on client needs.
  • Review client-provided financial records, tax documents, and supporting schedules.
  • Communicate with clients to gather missing information, clarify tax details, and answer preparation-related questions.
  • Participate in client meetings through Teams and, when needed, in person.
  • Work closely with firm leadership and internal team members to support accurate, timely tax work.
  • Assist with tax planning, issue-spotting, and client follow-up as appropriate to experience level.

Required Qualifications:

  • Prior hands-on experience preparing business tax returns.
  • Ability to work onsite in Jacksonville, FL.
  • Comfort meeting with clients and communicating professionally about tax-related matters.
  • Practical understanding of business financial records, including income statements, balance sheets, general ledgers, or bookkeeping records.
  • Ability to work in a small-firm, client-service environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage deadlines during tax season.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Approximately 3+ years of relevant tax preparation experience.
  • Experience in a CPA firm, public accounting firm, boutique tax practice, or small-business accounting environment.
  • Exposure to entity returns such as partnerships, corporations, S-corps, trusts, estates, or similar business filings.
  • CPA, EA, CPA candidate, accounting degree, or related tax credential.
  • QuickBooks, bookkeeping, payroll tax, nonprofit tax, or Form 990 experience.
  • Experience supporting tax planning, tax research, IRS/state notices, or client advisory work.

Compensation and Work Model:

Compensation is expected to be $60,000 to $75,000, depending on experience.

This is an in-person role based in Jacksonville, FL, with remote Wednesdays available based on client needs. Candidates should be comfortable supporting both virtual and occasional in-person client meetings.

How to Apply:

Qualified candidates with direct business tax preparation experience are encouraged to apply. Please submit your resume for consideration.
