Senior Accountant (Nonprofit) | Hybrid | Temp-to-Hire

Ascendo Resources is partnering with a well-established nonprofit organization in New York City seeking a Senior Accountant to join its growing finance team. This is a temp-to-hire opportunity offering a flexible hybrid schedule and the chance to contribute to a mission-driven organization making a meaningful impact in the community.

Location

Hybrid Schedule – New York, NY

• Mainly Remote! Approximately 6 days onsite per month
• Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
• 35-hour work week

Compensation

• Pay Rate: $40–$45 per hour
• Salary: Up to $85k

Responsibilities

• Manage monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes
• Prepare and analyze financial statements, including P&L and Balance Sheet reports
• Perform journal entries, account reconciliations, and month-end allocations
• Support budgeting, forecasting, and external audit activities
• Process wire transfers and ACH transactions
• Reconcile loans, interest accruals, and compliance-related reporting
• Review work completed by junior accounting staff
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and operational efficiency

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• 5+ years of accounting experience
• Prior nonprofit accounting experience required
• Strong month-end close experience
• Experience with journal entries, reconciliations, allocations, financial reporting, and audit support
• Advanced Excel skills, including Pivot Tables and VLOOKUPs
• Experience with Microsoft Dynamics is preferred
• Stable employment history with demonstrated tenure in prior roles
