About the Opportunity

We are seeking a detail-oriented Residential Mortgage Underwriter to join a growing banking institution in South Florida. This individual will be responsible for analyzing residential mortgage loan applications, assessing credit risk, reviewing financial documentation, and providing sound underwriting recommendations in accordance with bank policies and regulatory guidelines.

The ideal candidate has strong residential mortgage underwriting experience, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to evaluate complex borrower financial profiles.

Responsibilities

  • Review tax returns, financial statements, and supporting documentation to determine creditworthiness
  • Analyze borrower income, assets, liabilities, and repayment capacity
  • Prepare comprehensive underwriting and credit analysis reports
  • Identify and mitigate credit risks while recommending appropriate loan structures
  • Review credit reports, background checks, and OFAC screening results
  • Request and evaluate additional documentation when necessary
  • Collaborate with operations, processing, and lending teams to resolve application issues
  • Ensure compliance with underwriting guidelines, lending policies, and regulatory requirements
  • Participate in special projects related to the residential mortgage portfolio
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of BSA/AML and compliance requirements

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or related field preferred
  • Minimum 3+ years of residential mortgage underwriting experience
  • Strong understanding of residential lending products and underwriting principles
  • Experience analyzing tax returns and complex income calculations
  • Knowledge of credit risk assessment and financial statement analysis
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple files simultaneously
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Banking experience
  • Bilingual Spanish or Portuguese
  • Knowledge of regulatory and compliance requirements within financial institutions
