Senior Grants Accountant (Long-Term Contract)

Location: New York, NY (Hybrid – 3 days onsite for training; remote flexibility possible for the right candidate)
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM–4:30 PM (35-hour work week)
Duration: Long-term contract with potential for permanent conversion
Pay Rate: $40/hr–$50/hr

About the Opportunity

A leading nonprofit healthcare organization is seeking a Senior Grants Accountant to join their accounting team. This is a hands-on role supporting federal grant accounting, month-end close, and audit preparation. The ideal candidate is a strong accountant who can work independently, take ownership, and operate with minimal supervision.

This position is open due to increased workload and requires someone who can quickly step in and contribute with limited ramp-up time.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support month-end close activities, including journal entries, reconciliations, and GL analysis.
  • Manage federal grant accounting processes, including compliance with Uniform Guidance and SEFA reporting.
  • Prepare and analyze financial data related to grants, AR, and payer activity.
  • Process invoices and budget modifications.
  • Support audit requests and provide documentation as needed.
  • Review GL details and assist with financial reporting.
  • Work collaboratively with the accounting team while independently managing priorities.

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Strong month-end close and general accounting experience.
  • Experience with federal grants, nonprofit accounting, and grant compliance preferred.
  • Familiarity with Uniform Guidance and SEFA reporting strongly preferred.
  • Workday experience is a plus, but candidates with strong ERP/accounting systems experience will be considered.
  • Comfortable working independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Detail-oriented, proactive, and able to identify and resolve accounting issues.

Top Qualifications

  • Hands-on grant accounting experience.
  • Strong journal entry and GL analysis skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal direction.
