Job Summary
Our client, a rapidly growing construction company headquartered in Miami, FL is seeking an experienced and hands-on Accounting Manager to join its team as soon as possible. This role will oversee day-to-day accounting operations, ensure accurate financial reporting tailored to the construction industry (including job costing and percentage-of-completion accounting), and support strategic decision-making. This role involves managing a team of three direct reports, collaborating closely with project managers and operations, and reporting directly to the Controller.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee all aspects of the accounting function, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and bank reconciliations for the accounting team of three.
- Manage construction-specific accounting processes: job costing, project budgeting, progress billings (e.g., AIA forms), change orders, retainage, and percentage-of-completion revenue recognition.
- Prepare and analyze monthly financial statements, including WIP schedules, profit & loss by project, balance sheets, cash flow statements, and variance reports.
- Develop, monitor, and update annual budgets and forecasts in collaboration with the Controller and project teams; track project costs against budgets and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Ensure timely and accurate invoicing, vendor payments, subcontractor compliance (insurance, lien waivers), and cash flow management.
- Support month-end and year-end close processes, financial audits, and tax preparations.
- Implement and maintain internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with GAAP and construction industry regulations.
- Provide financial insights and reports to management to support bidding, project profitability analysis, and business decisions.
- Mentor, develop, and evaluate the accounting team; foster a collaborative and high-performance environment.
- Work with project managers and operations to resolve accounting issues and improve processes.
- Assist with ad-hoc projects, such as cost analysis, vendor negotiations, and system improvements.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2+ years in a leadership role.
- Strong construction accounting background, including job costing, project financials, and percentage-of-completion methods (highly preferred).
- Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, Viewpoint, or similar construction ERP systems) and advanced Excel skills.
- Solid understanding of GAAP and financial reporting.
- Proven ability to lead and develop a small team in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Experience in the Miami/South Florida market and knowledge of local construction regulations is a plus.
- Ability to work 100% in-office in Doral, FL.
