Position Overview:
We are seeking a hands-on Senior Accountant to support the accuracy, timeliness, and integrity of a broad accounting operation. This role combines general ledger accounting, financial reporting, close activities, transactional accounting, payroll administration, and small-team leadership.
The ideal candidate is comfortable moving between higher-level accounting responsibilities and day-to-day operational support. This position will supervise and mentor two accounting team members while remaining directly involved in journal entries, reconciliations, fixed assets, accounts receivable, accounts payable, cash activity, and financial reporting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee daily accounting activities to support accurate, efficient, and compliant financial operations.
- Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, balance-sheet schedules, fixed-asset schedules, and supporting financial reports.
- Perform assigned responsibilities throughout the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes.
- Monitor accounts receivable activity, including aging, collections, customer credit, cash application, and account follow-up.
- Provide hands-on support and backup coverage for accounts payable, invoicing, and cash-receipt processing.
- Administer biweekly payroll while maintaining accurate employee records, confidentiality, and compliance.
- Maintain payroll data and business rules within Paycor or a comparable payroll platform.
- Supervise, mentor, and support an Accounting Specialist and an Accounts Payable Specialist.
- Review accounting work, assist with workflow coordination, and help resolve escalated issues.
- Prepare schedules and documentation for annual financial audits, insurance reporting, and other compliance activities.
- Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes, strengthen internal controls, improve documentation, and reduce errors.
- Respond to accounting-related questions from employees, customers, vendors, and internal departments.
- Support additional accounting and finance initiatives as needed.
Qualifications:
- Demonstrated hands-on accounting experience across general ledger, journal entries, account reconciliations, financial reporting, and close activities.
- Broad exposure to transactional accounting functions such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, invoicing, collections, cash application, or cash receipts.
- Ability and willingness to remain directly involved in both technical accounting and day-to-day transactional work.
- Experience reviewing, mentoring, training, or supervising accounting team members.
- Strong attention to detail, organization, confidentiality, and follow-through.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and meet recurring accounting deadlines.
- Clear communication skills and the ability to work effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
Preferred Experience:
- Payroll processing or payroll administration.
- Experience with Paycor or another comparable payroll system.
- Fixed-asset accounting and schedule maintenance.
- Audit preparation or compliance-reporting support.
- Accounting process improvement, procedure documentation, or internal-control enhancement.
- Experience in a small or midsized accounting environment with broad, full-cycle responsibilities.
A CPA, specific accounting certification, prior industry experience, or previous Senior Accountant title is not required. Candidates will be considered based on the breadth and ownership of their accounting experience.
