Our client is seeking a Health Information Management (HIM) Specialist II to join their team. This position is responsible for managing, processing, reviewing, and auditing patient medical records while ensuring accuracy, confidentiality, and compliance with HIPAA and organizational policies. The ideal candidate will have healthcare records experience, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage, index, scan, upload, and organize patient medical records within EHR/EMR systems.
  • Process Release of Information (ROI) requests from patients, healthcare providers, insurance companies, attorneys, and other authorized parties.
  • Review and audit medical records for completeness, accuracy, and proper documentation.
  • Verify records and documentation are complete for upcoming appointments, procedures, and surgeries.
  • Perform accurate data entry and maintain up-to-date patient information.
  • Ensure strict confidentiality of protected health information (PHI) and compliance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Identify missing or inaccurate documentation and work with appropriate departments to resolve discrepancies.
  • Assist with training new HIM staff and serve as a resource for HIM Specialist I team members.
  • Participate in team meetings and huddles while helping maintain departmental productivity and turnaround-time standards.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; associate degree in Health Information Management or a related field preferred.
  • 1–4 years of experience in Health Information Management, medical records, healthcare administration, or a related healthcare setting.
  • Experience working with EHR/EMR systems, such as Epic, Allscripts, Cerner, or similar platforms.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA, medical terminology, patient records, and Release of Information procedures.
  • Strong data entry, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to handle confidential information appropriately.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with clinical and administrative teams.
