Project Accountant | New York, NY (Midtown, Rockefeller Plaza) | Onsite | Pay: $45–$55/hr | 6-Month Contract

About the role
A well-established real estate development and investment firm headquartered in Midtown Manhattan is seeking a Development Accountant for a 6-month contract to cover a leave of absence. This is a focused, defined-term engagement for a hands-on construction accounting professional who can step in immediately and own the month-end close process with minimal ramp-up time.

What you'll actually do

• Own and support the month-end accounting close process for real estate development and construction projects
• Process and review AIA payment applications accurately and on time
• Manage retainage tracking and ensure proper accounting treatment
• Maintain accurate project cost records and development accounting entries
• Work within Sage 300 and eBuilder to manage financial data and reporting
• Coordinate with project managers, development teams, and external vendors on financial matters
• Support general ledger maintenance and reconciliations related to construction activity
• Assist with draw requests, lender reporting, and project budget monitoring as needed

What we're looking for

• Proven experience in real estate construction or development accounting
• Fluency in AIA payment applications and retainage concepts — required
• Strong month-end close ownership experience
• Sage 300 experience required
• eBuilder experience strongly preferred
• Detail-oriented, organized, and comfortable working independently onsite
• Ability to hit the ground running with minimal training

A prominent, well-capitalized real estate development and investment firm with a significant portfolio across the New York metropolitan area. The accounting team is established and fast-moving — this role is a defined-term coverage position requiring someone who brings real construction accounting expertise and can integrate seamlessly into an existing workflow.

• Location: Midtown Manhattan, New York, NY | Fully onsite (Rockefeller Plaza)
• Schedule: Mon–Fri | 40 hours/week | No overtime
• Duration: 6-month contract (leave coverage — not expected to convert to perm)
• Start: ASAP upon identification of qualified candidate
