MEP Engineer

Compensation: $80,000 to $100,000

Position Overview

An established Jacksonville-based architecture firm is seeking an experienced, licensed MEP Engineer to join its team. The firm supports a diverse portfolio of commercial, residential, and industrial building projects, including renovations, tenant improvements, additions, and new construction.

This is a hands-on engineering role responsible for designing and coordinating mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire-protection systems. The MEP Engineer will work closely with architects, engineers, contractors, and clients to develop integrated, code-compliant solutions that support permitting and successful construction.

Responsibilities

• Design and analyze mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire-protection systems for building projects.
• Perform engineering calculations to support system sizing, equipment selection, performance requirements, and construction specifications.
• Develop and revise MEP drawings, schedules, details, and technical specifications.
• Coordinate building systems with architectural, structural, and other engineering disciplines.
• Ensure designs comply with applicable codes, safety regulations, engineering standards, and permitting requirements.
• Identify and resolve design conflicts, constructability concerns, and system-integration issues.
• Prepare or contribute to project cost estimates, budget reports, and value-engineering discussions.
• Conduct field observations and inspect installations for conformance with drawings and equipment specifications.
• Support construction-phase activities, including design revisions, contractor questions, submittal reviews, and corrective actions.
• Review proposed changes to engineering standards, policies, and technical details.

Qualifications

• Active Professional Engineer license.
• Professional experience designing MEP systems for buildings.
• Strong knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and fire-protection systems.
• Experience performing engineering calculations and developing construction drawings and specifications.
• Familiarity with AutoCAD, Revit, and applicable engineering-design or calculation software.
• Understanding of applicable building codes, safety standards, and permitting requirements.
• Ability to coordinate effectively with architects, engineers, contractors, clients, and permitting authorities.
• Strong technical problem-solving, organization, and attention to detail.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills.
• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical, architectural, or a related engineering field is preferred but not required.

Preferred Experience

• Florida building-code and permitting experience.
• Work within an architecture, engineering, MEP consulting, or design-build environment.
• Experience supporting commercial, residential, industrial, medical, office, retail, educational, or multifamily projects.
• Construction-administration, field-observation, cost-estimating, or value-engineering experience.
• Hands-on proficiency with both Revit and AutoCAD.
