Staff Accountant (Non-Profit Experience)

Location: East Harlem, NY 10029 (Fully Onsite)
Pay Rate: $40–$43/hour
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM–5:00 PM (35+ hours/week)
Duration: Ongoing Temporary Assignment (6+ months)

About the Role

Our client, a well-established nonprofit organization providing educational, behavioral health, and mental health services to children and families, is seeking a Senior Accountant to join its finance team. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute your accounting expertise to a mission-driven organization.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and general ledger analyses.
• Support monthly financial close and reporting.
• Assist with grant accounting, monthly grant claims, and payroll allocations.
• Prepare audit schedules and supporting documentation.
• Analyze financial data and maintain accurate accounting records.
• Utilize Sage Intacct and Excel for reporting and reconciliations.
• Collaborate with the Director of Finance and accounting team.
• Work overtime as needed during audits and deadlines.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• CPA or actively pursuing CPA certification preferred.
• 3+ years of accounting experience, preferably in nonprofit.
• Strong Excel skills; Sage Intacct experience preferred.
• Knowledge of grant accounting, payroll allocations, and grant claims is a plus.
• Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
• Must be able to work fully onsite during the temporary assignment.
