Position Summary

The Inventory Control Specialist is responsible for monitoring, managing, and maintaining accurate inventory levels within a warehouse, distribution center, or production facility. This role ensures proper handling of materials, supports efficient operations, and minimizes inventory discrepancies through regular audits, reporting, and process improvements.


Key Responsibilities

Inventory Tracking & Accuracy

  • Maintain accurate records of incoming and outgoing inventory.

  • Perform regular cycle counts and support full physical inventories.

  • Investigate and resolve inventory discrepancies or variances.

  • Update inventory data in ERP or warehouse management systems (WMS).

Receiving & Material Handling

  • Verify and inspect incoming shipments for accuracy and quality.

  • Ensure proper labeling, storage, and organization of materials.

  • Coordinate with purchasing, warehouse, and production teams to ensure smooth material flow.

Data Management & Reporting

  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly inventory reports.

  • Monitor stock levels and identify items that need replenishment or adjustment.

  • Track expiration dates, batch numbers, and lot control where applicable.

Process Improvement & Compliance

  • Recommend improvements to inventory processes to increase accuracy and efficiency.

  • Ensure compliance with company policies, safety regulations, and quality standards.

  • Maintain clean, safe, and well-organized storage areas.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Work with purchasing, shipping/receiving, production, and customer service teams to coordinate inventory needs.

  • Communicate inventory issues or shortages to supervisors and stakeholders promptly.


Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or GED required; associate degree in logistics, supply chain, or related field preferred.

  • 1–3+ years of inventory control or warehouse experience.

  • Experience with ERP or WMS systems (e.g., SAP, NetSuite, Oracle, Fishbowl).
