Our esteemed client in Middlesex County, New Jersey is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Staff Accountant to join there growing accounting team. The ideal candidate will have 3+ years of accounting experience in a wholesale or retail environment, with a solid understanding of general ledger accounting, financial reporting, and operational accounting processes. This role plays a critical part in supporting the financial health of the organization through accurate and timely financial reporting and analysis.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and post journal entries, ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP.
  • Assist in the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes, including account reconciliations and variance analysis.
  • Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, including inventory, COGS, sales, and expense accounts.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (sales, operations, inventory control) to ensure accurate financial data.
  • Assist with the preparation of financial statements and management reports.
  • Support accounts payable and receivable functions as needed, including vendor payment processing and customer invoicing.
  • Monitor inventory transactions and ensure proper accounting treatment of inventory purchases, transfers, and shrinkage.
  • Help coordinate and provide support for internal and external audits.
  • Identify opportunities to improve and streamline accounting processes.
  • Stay current on accounting standards and industry practices.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 3+ years of accounting experience, preferably in the wholesale, retail, or distribution industry.
  • Solid understanding of GAAP and core accounting principles.
  • Experience with ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite, SAP, Oracle) and proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Comfortable working independently and as part of a team.
