Financial Accountant (Junior Accountant)

A leading nonprofit organization based in NYC is seeking a Financial Accountant to join it's growing team. This position is responsible for reporting, reconciliation processes, and supporting monthly financial close activities. 

Key responsibilities:

  • Support the monthly closing process, including preparation of income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow reporting.
  • Assist in the completion of certified financial statements for external audits and support federal and state regulatory and/or tax filings.
  • Analyze financial statement components to identify trends and recommend adjustments to the chart of accounts.
  • Perform reconciliations with general ledger interfaces from third-party administrators, health plans, regulatory agencies, and internal systems.
  • Support budgeting processes, including financials for program proposals and grants.
  • Assist with daily maintenance of AP and AR transactions within accounting software.

Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of experience in financial accounting or similar analytical roles.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, anticipate needs and develop solutions.
  • Familiarity with health insurance or managed care accounting is a plus.
  • CPA preferred but not required.
  • Experience with government program financial reporting is a strong plus.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
