Ascendo Resources is partnering with a well-regarded regional law firm that is seeking an experienced Intellectual Property Legal Assistant to join its Charlotte office. This role supports a busy IP practice and is ideal for an administrative professional who is detail-oriented, service-driven, and comfortable working with patent-related matters. The position plays a key role in ensuring high-quality client service through effective document management, deadline tracking, and attorney support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide advanced administrative and legal support requiring familiarity with legal terminology and IP processes

  • Prepare, edit, and organize legal documents related to patents and proprietary technology

  • Assist with electronic filings before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office under attorney supervision

  • Draft Information Disclosure Statements and related correspondence

  • Monitor and manage domestic and foreign patent application deadlines

  • Prepare client communications summarizing USPTO and foreign associate actions

  • Conduct online research of technical literature and patent databases, including citation identification

  • Support transactional due diligence through USPTO database research

  • Handle additional administrative tasks as business needs require

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience as a legal assistant or legal secretary in a law firm or corporate legal environment; IP experience strongly preferred

  • Associate’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Word; typing speed of at least 50 wpm

  • Highly organized, detail-focused, and proactive with a strong sense of ownership

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced setting while maintaining professionalism

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Flexibility to work overtime as needed
