Job Title: Junior Accountant

Position Overview:
We are seeking a detail-oriented Junior Accountant to support the Finance Department in delivering accurate financial reporting and maintaining strong internal controls. This role involves routine and specialized accounting tasks, monthly close support, financial analysis, and cash management activities. The ideal candidate exercises independent judgment, maintains high attention to detail, and collaborates effectively across departments.

Location: Midtown Manhattan, near Penn Station – New York, NY 10018 (6 days onsite per month)
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM (35 hours/week)
Pay Rate: $25/hour - $28/hour
Duration: Temporary assignment, 3–6 months (no guarantee of conversion)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare monthly cash rent receipt schedules, including percentage analysis

  • Generate monthly financial schedules and financial statements

  • Analyze balance sheet and income statement accounts; support monthly and quarterly reporting

  • Assist with monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes

  • Support annual audit preparation

  • Perform bank reconciliations; manage wires, ACH activity, stop payments, return items, and related journal entries

  • Liaise with banks and lenders; reconcile and pay loans, prepare covenant compliance reports, borrowing base certificates, and interest accruals

  • Assist with budget preparation and monthly forecasting reports

  • Maintain organized accounting records, including bank statements, AP/AR documentation, contracts, loan documents, and tax records

  • Perform monthly general ledger clean-up

  • Monitor project-level vacancy loss and compile cash receipts from rent assistance programs

  • Review and interpret real estate closing documents

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, Economics, or related field

  • Minimum 3 years accounting experience, with emphasis on monthly close

  • Strong Excel skills (Pivot Tables and VLOOKUP required)

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)

  • Solid understanding of bookkeeping principles and financial recordkeeping

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment

Preferred:

  • Experience with Yardi

  • Nonprofit accounting experience
