Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Real Estate Accounting Manager to oversee all accounting functions related to our real estate portfolio. This role will be responsible for managing financial reporting, budgeting, cash flow, and compliance for commercial and/or residential properties. The ideal candidate brings a strong understanding of real estate accounting principles, experience leading a team, and the ability to work cross-functionally with asset management, operations, and external partners.
Key Responsibilities:

Oversee day-to-day accounting operations for a portfolio of real estate assets (commercial, residential, or mixed-use).

Ensure timely and accurate preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.

Manage the month-end and year-end close processes, including accruals, reconciliations, and variance analysis.

Supervise a team of property and/or staff accountants, providing training, mentorship, and performance management.

Coordinate with property managers and asset managers to review budgets, operating expenses, and capital expenditures.

Maintain general ledger accuracy and ensure proper classification of income and expenses.

Review and approve bank reconciliations, journal entries, and property-level reporting packages.

Monitor compliance with loan covenants, lease agreements, and investor reporting requirements.

Assist with annual audits and coordinate with external auditors and tax advisors.

Lead implementation or optimization of accounting systems and process improvements.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience:
-
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA preferred).

5–8 years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 2 years in real estate accounting.

Prior supervisory or team leadership experience required.

Experience with multiple entity structures, REITs, or fund accounting a plus.
Technical Skills:

Proficiency in property management and accounting software (e.g., Yardi, MRI, RealPage, NetSuite, QuickBooks).

Strong Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, formulas).

Thorough understanding of real estate accounting principles, including CAM reconciliations and lease accounting.
