Job Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented and people-focused Onboarding HR Specialist to join our HR team in supporting the seamless integration of new hires into our skilled trades workforce. This role is responsible for ensuring that all new employees—from electricians and welders to HVAC technicians and construction workers—are fully prepared, compliant, and confident in beginning their roles. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced environment and possess a strong understanding of both HR practices and the unique needs of a skilled trade workforce.


Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and facilitate the end-to-end onboarding process for new hires across multiple skilled trades.

  • Prepare and distribute offer letters, contracts, and new hire packets.

  • Conduct pre-employment checks including background screenings, certifications, and drug testing, ensuring compliance with industry regulations.

  • Schedule and lead orientation sessions tailored to trade-specific roles, safety requirements, and company culture.

  • Ensure all required licenses, safety training, and certifications are collected, verified, and properly documented.

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for new hires during their initial employment period.

  • Partner with operations, field supervisors, and safety teams to align onboarding with job-specific requirements.

  • Maintain accurate employee records in the HRIS and other internal systems.

  • Continuously improve the onboarding process by collecting feedback and identifying opportunities for efficiency and engagement.

  • Stay up-to-date with labor regulations and skilled trade certifications relevant to the workforce.


Qualifications

Required:

  • 2+ years of experience in HR, onboarding, or recruiting, preferably within a blue-collar or skilled trade environment.

  • Strong understanding of employment laws and trade-specific compliance requirements (e.g., OSHA, union guidelines, licensing).

  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills; able to relate to a diverse workforce.

  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.

  • Proficiency in HRIS systems and Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred:

  • Experience working in construction, mechanical, electrical, or similar skilled trade industries.

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus.

  • Familiarity with union/non-union labor environments.
