Job Summary: The Payroll Accountant is responsible for managing and processing payroll functions accurately and on time, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. This role includes reconciling payroll accounts, preparing financial reports, maintaining payroll records, and collaborating with HR and finance departments to support organizational goals.
Key Responsibilities:

Process bi-weekly or monthly payroll for all employees, including salaried, hourly, and contract workers.

Ensure accuracy of payroll data, including wages, bonuses, benefits, deductions, and taxes.

Maintain up-to-date payroll records and ensure confidentiality and security of employee data.

Reconcile payroll transactions and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.

Prepare and post payroll-related journal entries to the general ledger.

Prepare reports for internal stakeholders, audits, and government filings (e.g., W-2, 941, 1099).

Stay current with changes in payroll laws, tax regulations, and reporting requirements.

Coordinate with HR for new hires, terminations, benefits updates, and timekeeping approvals.

Assist in audits, both internal and external, by providing payroll records and documentation.

Support month-end and year-end close processes.
Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

2+ years of payroll or accounting experience (experience with payroll systems preferred).
